On a highly polished background stands a stockless anchor, a piece of equipment familiar to all seafarers, this nautical symbol is encompassed by its heavy cable. In the centre of the design is the cipher comprising "M.N." denoting the exclusive nature commemorative.....
REVERSE

Again, a highly polished background carries the central feature of a capstan supported by two grotesque sea creates and surmounted by a stylised crown. In turn a rope, encircles the elements and is joined with a reef knot at its lowest point. Between the rope and the outer rim of the medal is the inscription "For Merchant Naval;

THE RIBBON
Features a solid, dark blue background with central stripes of green, white and red, representing the navigation lights of an approaching ship, resulting in a truly nautical medal ribbon.

ELIGIBILITY
It is these men and now, in the modern era, the women of the merchant navy who will be recognised by the striking of the "Merchant Naval Service Medal". Available to all former and presently serving merchant service personnel as well as next of kin in this long standing profession.
Although there is a minimum two year service requirement the merit of each application will be considered on an individual basis. Applications from D.E.M.S.
Gunners will be eligible for this commemorative medal.

Award Productions Ltd, international medallists, have been invited with Tasmedals in Australia, to jointly sponsor and produce this befitting tribute to be worn with pride, not alongside campaign medals or gallantry decorations, but separately and distinctively.

The sponsors have pledged ten percent of the net cost of each medal sold in Australia and New Zealand to be donated directly to the Australian Merchant Navy Memorial Trust Fund.

Produced to the exacting standards for which Award Productions have become renowned, this very distinctive 36mm medal is struck in highly polished cupro-nickel. Each medal is ribboned and fitted with an individual brooch ready to wear. A plush lined presentation case can be supplied as an optional extra (please see the order form). The miniature medal (as other miniatures) is available without restriction. The full size medal is not supplied with edge engraving. Applicants should supply, where possible, the names of vessels and owners if known along with dates of service. A list may be attached to the application form if insufficient space has been allocated. Full details are required for each full size medal applied for.
